Guanajuato, Mexico, boasts a rich and vibrant culture deeply rooted in its history, traditions, and arts.
The city is known for its thriving arts scene, hosting the annual International Cervantino Festival, one of Latin America’s most prominent cultural events. This festival celebrates the arts, including music, theater, dance, and visual arts, attracting artists and performers from around the world.
Guanajuato is home to a diverse population, including indigenous communities and descendants of Spanish settlers. This diversity is reflected in the region’s customs, languages, and religious practices.
Guanajuato has a strong spiritual and folkloric tradition, with a blend of Catholicism and indigenous beliefs shaping local customs and rituals.
As you can see from my video, there is music in there almost all the time! And, Students at the University of Guanajuato engage in a wide range of performances as well.
Let’s talk about EXPENSES
The overall cost of living in Guanajuato City is generally lower than in larger Mexican cities like Mexico City or Monterrey. Rent prices can vary of course depending on the neighborhood, size, and amenities of the property.
As you can see here I looked online for furnished rentals in the city. I should note that I have not seen these in person, so take that into account. But they are all within the centro area.
If you could do without a car, that’s a major expense you could cut. Public transportation including buses and taxis, are affordable and convenient for getting around the city and surrounding areas. Just think: no gas, registration, maintenance fees!
Health care services, including doctor visits and medication, are also relatively affordable compared to many other countries.
Many of the city’s attractions and landmarks are accessible at minimal or no cost, making it easy for residents to enjoy leisure activities without breaking the bank.
So as you might be able to tell from my last video, and this one, I really like Guanajuato! It’s got so much of what I would like, and it’s big enough to have things like hospitals, Spanish Language schools, and great restaurants. AND an international airport close by.
But sadly, for now, we’re going to be leaving Guanajuato city. Though I love it, it is a city, and I’m seeking a smaller town. You know I have these two big dogs, they are a big part of my life. Getting a house with a yard for them might be kind of tricky, in fact it might be impossible in centro at my budget. And walking them every day in the city would be challenging for sure.
It’s not just the dogs though. I crave nature around me on a daily basis. Trees, earth, and a quieter atmosphere. Anyway, I don’t have the wardrobe for living in the city.
So for now, the search continues!
