So… this little rental wasn’t supposed to steal my heart. It was just a stop on the road. But then the birds started serenading me at sunrise… and the view? Well, I’ll let it speak for itself. Change is in the air… and this lovely little casita might soon be ready for its next chapter. I thought it deserved a proper introduction.

Hey friends—welcome back to my channel. Today I’m giving you a little tour of the casita I’ve been calling home just outside of Pátzcuaro. I’ve had some quiet, impactful, beautiful days here, and since change seems to be coming my way, I thought I’d show you around.

It’s a two bedroom one bath casita furnished with about everything you need to live!

So let’s start out by the gate! If you’ve watched my prior videos I’m sure you’ve seen glimpses of this property. It’s got a lot of room for pets to run around, and it’s fully fenced, so the dogs love it! You can bring your pets!

Like many homes in Mexico it has a big gate to the street. This is kept locked unless coming or going, and though I’ve never felt danger here or threatened in any way, it’s nice to have a big gate. You do have to open and close it every time you go out, but you get used to that.

The neighborhood is relatively quiet with houses spread out at a pretty good distance apart. There are roosters and dogs but nothing too close, and that hasn’t bothered me at all. There are two little tiendas within walking distance if you need eggs or tortillas, and the neighbors are friendly!

So from the gate let’s walk through the property. Up there is where the water cistern is. We’ve never had any problem with water here and it’s included with the rent, not drinking water but household water.  The property is kind of long and narrow with the two houses away from the street so there is minimal traffic noise.

This is where I park my car, as you can see there’s lots of room. That is the owner’s house. Alejandra and Enrique are the nicest people, they do speak English, and are very respectful of your privacy. They never just come over unannounced, but are there if you have questions about anything.

Up there is the entrance to the front door, but I usually use the backdoor just because there is more room for the two big dogs.  This is what I call the backyard. It’s lovely and shady when it’s warm out, and fully fenced off from the main property. Here is where there is the gas tank for hot water and cooking, and I’ll talk more about that in a moment. And the water pump which ensures good water pressure in the house.

Let’s go up to the front door. Of course the first thing everyone notices is the view of the lake!

It’s very comfortable and pretty here and more than enough room for a couple or small family.

Here is the dining table with chairs for 6, and there is a lot of storage if you bring a lot of things with you.

Here is the kitchen, charming and very functional. Lots of cabinets and furnished with pots and pans, silverware, plates, dishes, glasses. Everything you need! It’s a gas stove and oven, a medium sized fridge, and a wonderful view. I love all the natural light in here.

Through this door is a very important part, the utility room! Having your own laundry is so nice and these machines work very well. I like this little room because there is a lot of ventilation up there, and it’s also where I store things like trash, garifon, dog food and some appliances. There is the hot water heater. Please excuse my mess.

Ok, let’s bypass the bathroom for a moment and I’ll show you the 2nd bedroom. I’m using this more for an office and you can see I’ve shot many of my videos sitting at that desk. Once again, all the furniture belongs to the casita so you don’t have to buy anything.

Over here is the bathroom. I love the handmade tiles and sink. It’s colorful, functional and bright with the skylight. The shower is great and there’s good water pressure.

Across from the bathroom is the other bedroom, as you can see with a huge bed. It’s nice the way theyve made it with reading lights and a view out to the back. This side of the house is naturally darker, great for sleeping and I love it in the evening hearing the crickets outside. Like the other bedroom there are huge closets.

Let’s go out to the patio! It’s so beautiful out there!  It has a table and chairs, and a grassy area down a few steps. As you can see it’s pretty private and quiet. On this side is the neighbor’s but their house is way up there and it’s rare that anyone comes down here but the sheep sometimes.

Ok, that’s the casita! Here are questions and answers I frequently get from viewers about the house:

How much is the rent? They are asking $12,000 pesos which at today’s rate of exchange is just over $600 dollars a month

Are utilities included? Some are: household water and Starlink internet, which works well. I upload my videos from here, no problem. Trash, gas,  electricity, drinking water is paid for by you, but it’s very reasonable. Electric for example: I paid about $12 for two months last time. We have topped off the gas tank twice in the last year and it works out to about $11 a month.

How far are you from town? Do you need a car? We are about 40 minutes from Patzcuaro. I would suggest a car, yes. There are many combis getting people around but it would be much more convenient with a car. There is a smaller town closer, only about 10 minutes away with things like restaurants, carniceria, church, and some tiendas, if you don’t want to go all the way to Patzcuaro.

What’s the weather like and do you have heat and AC? There is this portable heater that runs on propane. I used it several times in December and January, and there is the fireplace. Temo the gardener can get you more wood whenever you like. There is no need for AC here. The elevation at about 7000ft keeps it pretty cool.

Lease or month to month? I believe they’d like month to month, but you can certainly speak with Alejandra if you have any questions.

Like I said, Alejandra and Enrique next door are the owners. I can’t recommend them enough!. Whenever I had a question or an issue they’ve been there for me, but never intrusive or nosey. If you have questions about this casita, the property, or rental terms please see the notes below this video for their email address. They want to hear from you!
